24 cards containing the numbers 1 to 10 twice (the small numbers) and 25, 50, 75 and 100 (the large cards)
are shuffled and placed face down in 4 rows with the 4 larger numbers on the top row.
You then choose up to 6 of the cards, depending on your chosen level of difficulty of the game.
They are displayed face down - shown as .
Just click on the ones you want to select.
When you have picked all your cards,
a random number generator then automatically chooses a number as the Target.
You then have up to 50 seconds (depending again on the level of difficulty)
to use some or all of the numbers you picked together with the operations of +, –,
×
and ÷ to make the target, or as close to it as you can get in the time.
You can enter your answer either as a single mathematical expression
or as a series of one-operation calculations such as 3 + 6, 9 x 5, 7 - 1 or 20 ÷ 2
to make a new number to replace the two used.
Suppose you picked the numbers 9,1,2,1,8,7 and the target was 51:
EITHER enter a mathematical expression for the target (in this example it is 51),for example:
8×7 – (9 + 1)/2
or perhaps
(9 + 1)*[7 – 2] + 1
making sure that you only use each number at most once. Any number that is repeated in the list
must be used no more times than it appears in the list.
You can type the multiply operation as either * or x and use
( and ) brackets or [ and ] when you type in your method.
OR use the Calculator. Your chosen numbers will appear as Number buttons:
You can enter simple sums such as
The Number buttons will
change to replace the numbers you have used with the result as a new button. The separate sums are recorded in the
Results area. Finally click on a number to pick your answer and press "Got it!".
OR you can give up and ask the Got It genius, Hattie, to show you how she Got It if she can.
The Timer
As soon as the Target is generated,
a Timer will count down the time and is there for information only. You can stop it
at any time or just let it count down to zero.
At any time you can start to type in your answer - as an expression, or using the buttons of the Calculator
- or you can ask Hattie to solve it.
Your score
10 points if you make the Target exactly 7 points if you are within 5 of the target value 5 points if you are within 10 of the target nothing if you are off the target by more than 10!
