Polynomials: Remainder Theorem

The remainder when v2 + 14 v + 51 is divided by v + 5 is

tickcross

Worked Solution:

The Remainder Theorem:
When a polynomial P(v) is divided by va the remainder is P(a)
The divisor is v + 5 so we substitute v = –5 into v2 + 14 v + 51:
P( –5) = ((–5))2 + 14 (–5) + 51 = 6
=> the remainder is 6.
