Complex Numbers: Addition and Subtraction

2( –6 + j )   –   2( –18 + 4 j ) = + j

tickcross

Worked Solution:

Expand the brackets first:
2( –6 + j ) = –12 + 2 j
2( –18 + 4 j ) = –36 + 8 j
Subtract the real parts –12 – (–36)=24
Subtract the imaginary parts 2 j – 8 j= –6 j
The total is therefore 24 – 6 j
